เพลา

n. 1. a shaft, an axle, a thill, a sail-yard, a stake or handle, a boom;

2. the thighs, the lap, the legs; v. 3. to abate, to reduce, to decelerate, to slow down, to tone down; 4. adj. decreasing (in severity), improved (in condition), becoming less dangerous or virulent; n. 5. time of day, hour, period, occasion, limit of time (เวลา).

(พะ-เลา) or (เพ-ลา) when refered to time of the day.

เพลากลางหัก แต่เพลาหลังยังดี The propeller shaft (drive shaft) is broken, but the rear axle is still good.

ลมยังไม่เพลา The wind has not abated. เขาได้เพลาข้อเรียกร้องลงแล้ว He has reduced his demands. หมู่นี้ชาวบ้านอดอยาก ผมกินข้าวคลุกน้ำปลามาหลายเพลาแล้วครับ Recently, the villagers are starving, and I have been eating rice with fish sauce for several times (meals) already.
